ANA K. REED

FOR MVWSD TRUSTEE

ANA KRISTINA REED 4 MV SCHOOL BOARD

Children have the right to a quality public school education in their neighborhood. With our diverse and accomplished staff, engaged community, and sizable budget, we have the ability to raise the bar in how we conceptualize the portrait of a learner we hope our students become when they are promoted to high school. Our city has much to do in providing extra supports for the amount of unhoused, English Learners, socioeconomically disadvantaged students within our schools, but with the amount of talented teachers, dedicated school staff, skilled parent volunteers, and overall community support, we have the resources necessary to bridge the achievement gap. Thought, we do need to be more efficient with our resources and allocate them appropriately. I hope to be elected to the team that helps guide the district in a direction where the success of all students is our main objective and that the decisions we make are always filtered through that lens.  When we understand that all children are capable of achieving at higher levels and expand our efforts to target and lift up underrepresented and other struggling students, it becomes an easier task for our school staff to differentiate curriculum and provide more deeper learning opportunities and enriching activities for all, including those performing well above grade level. Let's move forward together.

Candidate Statement

I am an involved parent who is invested in the success of our district.

I want to serve on a board that upholds the values of the people it represents.

As a teacher of 20+ years, I’ve guided learners on their journeys to be global citizens. For success today, students need strong academic skills, but they also require support in developing the areas of emotional intelligence, social justice, environmental activism, and community involvement.

As an educational insider, I have an extensive understanding of student, teacher, and school site needs. Decades worth of time developing project-based learning experiences and creating successful programs has shown me that students thrive in environments that are warm and welcoming and that teachers have a greater capacity to be innovative and create safe learning spaces when their needs are being met

As an immigrant from the Philippines, I know the challenges of being an English learner, and I want to assist the students who often fall through the cracks, making sure that each and every child has the opportunity to succeed.

With your vote, I will foster a positive relationship between our district and the city, provide fiscal accountability, advocate for restorative policies, increase transparency via timely communication, and support innovative educational practices that lift up every one of our students.

My passion for our diverse community runs deep. I am qualified and ready to serve.
